“144-Hour Visa-Free Transit: Traveling in Yunnan Made Easier”
Yunnan Province’s 144-hour visa-free transit policy applies to the administrative areas of nine cities (prefectures), including Kunming, Lijiang, Yuxi, Pu’er, Chuxiong, Dali, Xishuangbanna, Honghe, and Wenshan. The applicable ports of entry include Kunming Changshui International Airport, Lijiang Sanyi International Airport, and the Mohan Railway Port.
The 144-hour visa-free transit policy allows eligible foreign travelers to submit their valid international travel documents (with a validity of more than three months) and a confirmed onward ticket (or other relevant proof) for travel to a third country or region within 144 hours. Travelers can apply to the border inspection authorities for temporary entry into China, and stay for up to 144 hours without a visa.
Since the implementation of the visa-free policy, citizens from 54 countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, who meet the entry conditions, can now enter Yunnan by flight or through the China-Laos Railway, and visit popular tourist destinations in the province. This makes it more convenient for foreign travelers to come to China for tourism, family visits, business inspections, and other short-term activities.
Kunming Changshui International Airport has launched a VIP service specifically for Southeast Asian travelers, which includes VIP reception, fast-track customs clearance, luggage delivery, and Chinese language assistance, providing travelers with a more convenient travel experience.
As Kunming’s international flight network continues to expand and the promotion of the 144-hour visa-free policy intensifies, along with the efficient and convenient “Yichang Transfer” services at Kunming Airport, more foreign travelers are expected to utilize this policy for transit, leading to a steady increase in the number of transit passengers and making the 144-hour visa-free transit policy at Kunming Airport more beneficial for travelers.
